Dinosaurs? So last year. Unicorns? Whatever. Traditional toys are out. Do you know what kids are asking for these days? Robots! We’re awash in a sea of robotics these days, with the WowWee Coji, the Meccano MeccaNoid, and the Anki Cozmo, but the Fisher-Price Teach ‘n’ Tag Movi is the only one aimed at teeny tiny kids. Is 3 years old too early to be learning about STEM? No, according to Fisher-Price!

Who is Movi?

Movi is music, games, and ‘hidden’ learning all wrapped up into one compact robot. With 360 degree movement, and a speed that looks like he’s got a bee up his bum, this isn’t a toy for keeping the kids quiet while you’re watching the latest installment of Emmerdale. Oh no. This is a toy that actively encourages kids to race around like crazy, blowing off steam while learning at the same time. Whether kids are trying to catch up with this spry little fella, following his path, or playing ‘Movi Says’, this is the sort of thing you want to bring out in the middle of the afternoon so they’ll sleep well in the evening!

Design

Try as you might, you’ll never find a flaw with Movi’s design. Big, hefty wheels power through even the thickest of carpets (and are pretty good at withstanding temper tantrums, too), while bright, bold colours appeal to both girls and boys. Chunky buttons are the perfect size for little hands with not-quite-there motor skills, and of course Movi himself is super cute. He’d be entirely huggable if he wasn’t hard plastic.

We Want More!

Every brand wants to do something revolutionary. That’s why our homes are filled with gadgets with tons of features, but few they excel at. Fisher-Price have got this upside down and back-to-front. The Fisher-Price Teach ‘n’ Tag Movi does little, but is unbeatable at doing it. It’s actually really frustrating!

I’m a grown adult, and I’ve been racing this little guy around for hours. I had no idea how unfit I was until I tried to keep up with Movi… it was like a game of Twister in some parts… I’m going to hurt in the morning, aren’t I? Now imagine all this, intensified, with little ones who seem to magic energy out of the air. Movi is, quite literally, hours of fun, but he doesn’t seem to have the content to fill these hours. The result? A lot of repetition, which is probably great if you’re 3 years old… but not so great if you’re 33.

Final Thoughts

Even allowing for the repetition, there is no cooler robot out there for 3 year olds than the Fisher-Price Teach ‘n’ Tag Movi. There’s other STEM toys, sure, like the Fisher-Price Code-a-Pillar, but robots are the bees knees right now. So if you’re keen to show your little ones just how hip you are, it’s got to be a robot. Nothing else will do. And if it’s got to be a robot, it’s got to be Movi. It’s as simple as that!
