What’s the one thing every parent of a young baby is short of? Did you answer sleep? No, you fool – doorways.

You want to put the little darling in a bouncer so that you can go to the loo / have a cup of coffee / clear away yesterday’s breakfast dishes / collapse (delete as applicable) but doorway hanging bouncers are just a pain when you need to move around. Enter the Fisher Price Rainforest Jumperoo, which will have parents everywhere jumping for joy along with their adorable offspring.

All The Fun Of The Rainforest

From parrots to frogs, elephants (in a rainforest?) and lizards, baby gets plenty of company in this Jumperoo. The comfy padded seat swivels 360 degrees so that you need never be out of her sight, and there are toys right the way round to spin, push, thump, turn, twist and drool on, as well as some toys hanging over head to encourage baby to jump higher.

Of course, there are lights and sounds too, and Fisher Price have considered parent sanity by providing an off-button for the music which just leaves you with the animal noises when Mummy has a migraine. Alternatively, when you’re really up for it, you can set the music to play continuously for four minutes, or to be activated by baby’s jumping movements to encourage more effort on his or her part – no slacking here.

Not So Much A Toy, More A Piece Of Furniture

The Jumperoo is very sturdy and well made, and easily put together. It is massive however, and will easily dominate a small room. It does fold, for storage and for moving from room to room, but it’s still by no means small and unobtrusive even in its folded state.

Baby can go in the Jumperoo as soon as her head control is good enough, so from around 4 months for some, or perhaps 6 months for others. There is a padded neck rest attached to the seat, and the whole seat cover is easily machine washable, which is handy.

If baby’s likely to follow you down the vertically challenged route, then a cushion or folded blanket under her feet initially will help her get the hang of the bouncing thing, until she’s big enough for her feet to reach the floor.

A Life-Saver, But Perhaps Short-Lived?

You’ll probably get a good six months worth of use from the Jumperoo if your baby goes into it early, but once she’s nearly ready to crawl she’ll get bored of this, outgrow it and start finding new ways to explore. While it lasts, mind, it will probably save your sanity. It’s bright, it’s colourful, it’s safe and there’s a lot to keep little minds active and engaged. With all that leg strengthening going on you’ll probably have a future athlete on your hands before long. Definitely recommended, for baby’s exercise and cognitive development, and for your mental health too.
