No one wants their teeth to look like they’d fit in as one of the bad guys in a horror movie, which is why it pays to look after your pearly whites properly. The Oral-B Pro 4000 will do a good a job of keeping your teeth in proper order without having to spend big bucks on something that has totally pointless functionality. Is an Internet enabled toothbrush really necessary?!

A Dentist’s Dream?

As well as taking the effort out of scrubbing your fangs clean like any old electric toothbrush, the Oral-B Pro 4000 has a number of tricks up its sleeve. Like many other models, it runs in two minute cycles to help you make sure that you don’t spend either too much or little time over the sink. It then vibrates ever thirty seconds to prompt you to move on to another section of your mouth, again helping to avoid enamel erosion. Your Dentist will (if they’re any good) thank you for it.

Made of fairly generic white and blue plastic (we really need Apple to create an gold anodised aluminium luxury version!) the Pro 4000 feels robust whilst remaining light and comes with two extra CrossAction brush heads, which Braun claim are much more efficient at getting rid of plaque due to the angles they offer. If you have a load of brush heads from your old Oral B, don’t worry, as the 4000 is compatible with a variety of other heads too.

Hollywood Smile

The Pro 4000 features a bright (very, very bright) red light that acts as a pressure sensor, to stop to from applying too much force as you brush away in an early morning stupor. Some people find this too strong, which I suppose is part of the point – you want to avoid being half-blinded (slight exaggeration), so you caress your teeth with care rather than scrub away at them with abandon.

There are four brushing modes, although unless you’re a dentist it seems unlikely whether you’ll know if they make a difference, those being: standard daily clean, gum care, sensitive and whitening. You have to suspect that what you eat and how you eat probably has more of an impact, but they’re nice options to have. Most of the time you’ll just opt for the daily clean option, but a quick press of the button will cycle you through the modes if you feel like something different.

A Notch Above The Rest?

One area that can really differentiate electric toothbrushes is battery life, and this is where the Oral-B Pro 4000 does particularly well. One charge should last you about a week’s worth of brushing twice a day for two minutes, which far outstrips many other products.

On the other hand, a full charge from scratch takes a whopping 22 hours according to the manual, which seems faintly ludicrous. Make sure you follow the instructions in order to get the best out of the battery. Leaving it plugged in all the time will inevitably reduce its capacity.

All in all, the Oral-B Pro 4000 will leave your teeth feeling smooth and clean, won’t hurt your wallet too much and has a variety of functionality without getting carried away. It doesn’t have wireless capability, deep clean mode or Bluetooth technology, which is probably for the best. It does, though, have a practical stand to keep it neat and tidy and for storing your replacement heads.

  • Effortlessly attack plaque with the 16 degree perfectly-angled and criss-crossed bristles.
  • While the Oral-B Pro 4000’s powerful motor allows up to 40,000 pulsations and 8,800 oscillations per minute to ensure you get a sparkly clean.
  • Not forgetting the 2 minute timer with 30 second intervals for that dentist clean feel.
  • Worried about sensitive teeth? The ‘Visible Pressure Sensor’ lets you know when the recommended brushing pressure has been exceeded.
  • There’s also a ‘Sensitive’ mode which operates at a lower speed that ‘Daily Clean’ mode for a more gentle cleaning sensation.
  • Other modes include; Daily Clean, Whitening, Gum Care (in addition to ‘Sensitive’) making it 4 modes in total.
  • To ensure your nashers get the best treatment the Oral-B Pro 4000 comes with 3 brush heads: CrossAction (designed for optimal tooth coverage), Sensitive (for a gentle brushing experience) and 3D White (gently removes stains).
  • Want to use another Oral-B head with the Pro 4000? Fear not. The Oral-B Pro 4000 is compatible with a wide variety of toothbrush heads, including: CrossAction, FlossAction, 3D White, Precision Clean, Sensitive Clean, TriZone, Power Tip and Ortho.
